What kind of degree can I gain entry and/or credit to when I graduate, if I choose?
Bachelor of Accounting is the most common articulation into university. Speak to one of our student advisors to learn which universities we have articulation agreements with.
Why do people study at ABA?
We have interviewed and surveyed our students extensively to understand why they chose us and what they are getting from studying here. The top four reasons are:
- They get into the workforce quicker. Our courses take 6-18 months, rather than 1-3 years with other providers (including TAFEs and universities).
- Our courses are tailored to industry requirements. We consult regularly with industry to ensure our graduates will have skills that are up-to-date when they graduate.
- We help them get a job. Rather than just giving them a qualification and wishing them luck, we work with each student to help them get a job when they finish. Last year 100% of our students got a job or entry into university within 12 weeks of graduating.
- Flexible payment options. We are one of the few providers nationally who can offer VET FEE-HELP which is a loan from the government to pay your course tuition fees. This means no up-front payments and you don't start paying it back until your taxable income reaches a certain threshold. We also offer for those students who choose, or who aren't eligible for VET FEE-HELP, fortnightly installments and up-front payments.
Why choose to do Accounting with ABA as opposed to going with another provider?
Industry statistics show that accounting courses have a very high number of drop-outs. Students come to us because:
- We have smaller classes. We have maximum class sizes of 16 and offer one-on-one support with our Learning Facilitators. This means if you need help with exam preparation or assignments, you will get it.
- We focus on current industry requirements. Tax law in Australia is forever changing and you need to know that your skills and knowledge will be up-to-date when you graduate; we ensure our content is relevant and accurate. Our Learning Facilitators still work in the industry and their knowledge is current.
- You have an interview with the Learning Facilitator running your course before you start. We do this so they know your history and experience with course content and can adjust their teaching style for you accordingly. It also helps you feel more comfortable on your first day.
- We're focused on helping you get a job or get entry to university after graduation. This means we care whether you pass or fail and do everything possible to see you succeed. In short, we care about your learning experience.
- We provide leverage if you want to go onto university. If you've already started a job in the finance field when you graduate then your uni studies will become tax deductible (check with your accountant). You'll be way ahead, in terms of study habits and learning strategies, of a typical Year 12 school-leaver so you'll find uni much easier and will be less likely to drop out.
What is unique about Accounting as opposed to other career options?
- Greater understanding and control of your personal finances so you can build wealth faster.
- Flexible working hours Much of the work doesn't require a client in front of you. This means you can work part-time, weekends or nights if you choose, so working around family, sporting or even having a second job is much easier than in many other fields.
- Lots of options for experiences Allows you to work in big companies, small companies or even for yourself. The skills are also portable across industries so you can get experience across many different kinds of businesses over time.
- The lifestyle Accountants are usually pretty well-paid so you can enjoy a high quality lifestyle.
- Security of employment Workers in finance are usually sought-after and are rarely the first to go when economic times get tough.
What are the delivery options?
- Full-time - this is usually 17-20 hours per week, completed over three days (not five, where possible). This means you can usually work part-time quite comfortably whilst studying.
- Part-time - this is usually 6 hours per week, completed over two nights. This means you can work full-time whilst studying.
- Full-time course with part-time load - this is where you study during the day but do fewer units. It may take longer to complete your course but you don't have to study at night. This means you can work around family or working commitments more easily.
