What kind of degree can I gain entry and/or credit to when I graduate, if I choose?
Most students articulate into a Bachelor of Sport Management at university. Speak to one of our student advisors to learn which universities we have articulation agreements with.
Why do people study at ABA?
We have interviewed and surveyed our students extensively to understand why they chose us and what they are getting from studying here. The top four reasons are:
- They get into the workforce quicker. Our courses take 6-18 months, rather than 1-3 years with other providers (including TAFEs and universities).
- Our courses are tailored to industry requirements. We consult regularly with industry to ensure our graduates will have skills that are up-to-date when they graduate.
- We help them get a job. Rather than just giving them a qualification and wishing them luck, we work with each student to help them get a job when they finish. Last year 100% of our students got a job or entry into university within 12 weeks of graduating.
- Flexible payment options. We are one of the few providers nationally who can offer VET FEE-HELP which is a loan from the government to pay your course tuition fees. This means no up-front payments and you don't start paying it back until your taxable income reaches a threshold. We also offer, for those students who choose or who aren't eligible for VET FEE-HELP, fortnightly installments and up-front payments.
Why choose to do Sport Management with ABA as opposed to going with another provider?
Students come to us because:
- We have smaller classes. We have maximum class sizes of 16 and offer one-on-one support with our Learning Facilitators. This means if you need help with exam preparation or assignments, you will get it.
- We focus on current industry practices. Our Sports Management course has a major focus on the practical application of the theoretical knowledge. Our course includes 120 hours of industry experience which allows students to build contacts and apply the theoretical knowledge they have learnt in the classroom. We have close ties with industry and our Learning Facilitators have current industry experience.
- You have an interview with the Learning Facilitator running your course before you start. We do this so they know your history and experience with course content and can adjust their teaching style for you accordingly. It also helps you feel more comfortable on your first day.
- We're focused on helping you get a job or get entry to university after graduation. This means we care whether you pass or fail and do everything possible to see you succeed. In short, we care about your learning experience.
- We provide leverage if you want to go onto university. If you've already started a job in the sporting or fitness industry when you graduate then your uni studies will become tax deductible (check with your accountant). You'll be way ahead, in terms of study habits and learning strategies, of a typical Year 12 school-leaver so you'll find university much easier and will be less likely to drop out.
What is unique about Sport Management as opposed to other career options?
- Work in a field you are passionate about. You will always want to go to work and you will love what you do.
- Access to extremely varied job types. You get to work in really different areas like administration, event management, sponsorship, marketing and more. You'll have no time to get bored doing the same thing!
- Work with a diverse range of people. If you really enjoy working in teams and providing service to external clients you will love this industry as you'll regularly be working with a big range of different people and personality types.
- You don't always have to work in an office. You can work outdoors and in the field. There are opportunities to travel within Australia and overseas.
What are the delivery options?
- Full-time - this is usually 17-20 hours per week, completed over three days (not five, where possible). This means you can usually work part-time quite comfortably whilst studying.
- Full-time course with part-time load - this is where you study during the day but do fewer units It may take longer to complete your course but you don't have to study at night. This means you can work around family or working commitments more easily.
