97% of graduates from Australian Business Academy are employed within 12 weeks of graduating.

"Sorry, you've got no experience" is a phrase often heard by job seekers, particularly graduates as they try to break into a new field, regardless of the fact that they have appropriate qualifications.

To overcome this barrier for you, ABA has designed courses which develop the types of skills demanded by employers - high quality, industry-relevant skills that will allow you to operate as a proficient worker for an organisation as well as the practical experience which enables you to apply what you have learnt.

Specific programs provided by the Academy to assist with your career planning include:

Academy Organised Industry Experience

All courses have a compulsory industry experience component. This extends your practical experience and allows you to make contacts in the industry sector in which you wish to specialise. Click here for more information.

Networking

ABA has built up a network of companies that approach our students for assistance in working on projects. You will use your academic skills to complete a practical project for a company, with the guidance of company staff and your learning facilitator.

You will be introduced to this network and encouraged & instructed on how to develop your own contacts. Some sources estimate that up to 80% of jobs are not advertised and 65% are acquired through networks. This makes your network a very valuable resource for your job search. After all, "it's who you know that often makes the difference".

Job Application Preparation

Applying for a position, whether advertised or not, requires particular skills and involves successfully completing all the various stages of the application process. Some of these stages include:

•  Your introduction
First impressions are everything.

•  Resume preparation
Your resume is an important marketing tool, which should be designed to obtain you an interview. Along with your resume, you may also be required to submit statements against specific selection criteria.

•  Interview skills
It is important to understand what the employer is looking for in an applicant and also what you are looking for in a position.

•  Interview preparation
It may be timely to re-visit your resume and interview skills prior to successfully gaining an interview.

Introduction to Recruitment Agencies

Recruitment agencies are important players in an employers' search for suitable employees. Agencies reduce the work involved in assessing resumes for short-listing of candidates and the employer only has to interview a limited number of potentially suitable applicants.

The Academy has established a strong network of contacts in recruitment agencies, both in Canberra, Sydney and further afield which we can introduce you to.

Continual Coaching and Support

From the first days of your studies at ABA you will be prepared for a career in your chosen industry, initially via the above programs. Once you have decided exactly what type of position you wish to apply for, you will work closely with your Student Manager and other specialist staff to discuss your career ambitions.

Your Student Manager is available at all times to assist you in developing a career search action plan and can help to identify positions for which to apply and give you any other guidance and support necessary.

Life Long Support

The career coaching, support and assistance with university articulation is a life-long commitment from ABA. For example, you may wish to work for a few years before moving into university or you may wish to have ABA help you secure employment once you complete your degree.

Whatever your pathway will be, whether you need employment or university assistance, ABA will be there to advise, support and guide you.
